About Signature House

I’m Melissa Ward, founder of the dual brands Signature House and Signature Giftworks, and a lifelong believer in the power of thoughtful objects to shape everyday life. My work has always lived at the intersection of storytelling, craftsmanship, and the quiet details that make experiences meaningful.

My path into retail began early. I grew up watching my mother work as a buyer for a retail chain, and I later joined the business myself, learning the trade from the ground up in buying, advertising, and accounting. I also spent time working in independent boutiques and a major department store, gaining firsthand experience in customer service, the rhythms of specialty retail, and the art of merchandising goods that people truly love to live with.

That foundation deepened during my years at Discovery Channel, where I managed high-profile corporate PR and philanthropic events and later became closely involved when the company acquired and revitalized The Discovery Channel Stores. Participating in the expansion and repositioning of those retail stores reinforced something I had long believed: when thoughtfully curated, retail can become a form of storytelling — a way to bring people into a world of shared values, beauty, and purpose.

Those experiences ultimately shaped the creation of two distinct but connected ventures.

SIGNATURE HOUSE is a Modern Heritage Foundry devoted to the restoration and reimagining of cultivated elegance for everyday family life. Here we design and curate heirloom-worthy pieces for children, home, and personal style — crafted from legacy materials and rooted in classical form, thoughtful color, and time-honored detail.

SIGNATURE GIFTWORKS grew from my enduring belief in the art of giving. It is a gifting atelier where beauty, function, and story converge — offering luxuriously assembled gift sets, bespoke elements, and artisan goods chosen to mark life’s meaningful moments with grace and intention.

Together, these two houses reflect a shared philosophy: that the objects we choose to live with — whether worn, gifted, or passed down — should carry meaning, craftsmanship, and a sense of enduring care.
